14 Days Uganda Wildlife Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport
Welcome to the Pearl of Africa! Upon your arrival, our company driver-guide will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your lodge in Kampala. Along the way, feel free to ask any questions as your guide shares fascinating insights about Uganda. Once you arrive at the lodge, you can check in, unwind, and prepare for the exciting safari ahead.

Day 2: City tour
After breakfast at the lodge, set out on a city tour of Kampala and visit key religious and historical sites such as the Gadhafi Mosque, Kabaka’s Palace, the Bahai Temple, and Amin’s torture chamber. Enjoy a local lunch at a restaurant in Kampala, then spend the rest of the afternoon at your leisure, exploring the city at your own pace, or take a dip in the pool at the lodge and relax in your accommodations.

Day 3: Transfer from Kampala-Murchison Falls National park – Rhino tracking – hike to the top of the falls
After breakfast, you’ll be picked from your lodge by our company representative who will drive you to Murchison Falls National Park, a protected area of more than 4,000 square miles. On the way there you’ll stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This is a reintroduction program that has successfully bred over a dozen white rhinos and is the only place in Uganda where you can see them.

Afterwards, continue on until you reach Murchison Falls National Park. The Nile flows directly through the park, attracting Nile crocodiles, hippos and the semi-aquatic Sitatunga antelope. Lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, the Rothschild giraffe, warthogs, the giant forest hog, Uganda kob, topi and water buffalo are just a few of the great mammals that you will see here.

You can hike to the top of the falls for awe-inspiring views and to feel the force of the River Nile under your feet as the half a kilometre-wide river narrows to just 7m wide and cascades down through a 45m drop.

After an adventurous day, you’ll return to your lodge in time for dinner and can spend the evening at your own leisure.

Day 4: Game drive and Nile cruise
The day kicks off with an early breakfast before you embark on an exhilarating game drive. Get ready to encounter a variety of wildlife, including majestic elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, and possibly even elusive lions and leopards. You’ll also have the chance to spot some of the 450 bird species in the area, including the rare and remarkable Shoebill Stork. The game drive lasts from three to four hours.

Afterward, return to the lodge to unwind and enjoy a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, around 2:00 PM, set out on an unforgettable boat cruise on the Nile. Experience a different, up-close view of the wildlife as they gather by the riverbanks to cool off, and marvel at the breathtaking sight of the falls from the river’s edge. Conclude the day with dinner and a peaceful overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 5: Delta lunch and transfer to Hoima
After a leisurely breakfast, set out at around 9:00 AM for a scenic boat cruise to the Delta, where you’ll have another chance to spot the elusive and fascinating Shoebill Stork among other wildlife.

Return to the lodge for a delightful lunch, then prepare for your transfer to Hoima. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Albert and the Albertine Rift Valley as you pass through the Bulisa Escarpment.

Day 6: Transfer to Kibale National Park
After breakfast, grab your packed lunch and set off on a scenic transfer to Kibale National Park. Enjoy the journey as you pass through traditional homesteads and the lush tea plantations of Fort Portal (Kabarole). Arrive in the evening, ready to unwind and soak in the beauty of your new surroundings.

Day 7: Chimpanzee Trekking – Bigodi walk
After breakfast, head to the Kibale National Park Offices for registration and a briefing before setting off on a thrilling trek through one of East Africa’s oldest forests, where trees soar up to 50 metres high. The trek, which can take between 2 to 6 hours, will lead you in search of habituated chimpanzees, with the chance to encounter other fascinating primates like the Black and White Colobus, Red Colobus, Red-tailed, L’hoest’s Monkeys, and Grey-cheeked Mangabey. The forest is also a haven for birdwatchers, featuring species such as the elusive Green-breasted Pitta.

After your trek, return to the lodge to relax and enjoy a hearty lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a rewarding nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland, where you can immerse yourself in the diverse beauty of this unique ecosystem.

Day 8: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – visit Lake Katwe
After breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, journeying through the scenic Crater Lakes region. As you drive south along the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, you’ll traverse the stunning western Rift Valley, which marks the border between Uganda and Congo. Upon arrival, check in at the lodge, enjoy a delicious lunch, and take some time to relax.

In the evening, visit the intriguing Katwe Salt Lake, where a local guide will share fascinating insights into the traditional salt mining process.

Day 9: Game drive and boat cruise
Start your day early with a cup of coffee before heading out on an exciting game drive across the Kasenyi Plains. You’ll be searching for a diverse array of wildlife, including elephants, waterbucks, kob, buffaloes, giant forest hogs, bushbucks, hyenas, lions, and leopards. The park is renowned for its incredible bird diversity, boasting about 612 species—more than any other park in the world.

After the drive, you’ll return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast, after which you can simply relax and enjoy your surroundings. In the afternoon, you will set out on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. This cruise offers a unique perspective on wildlife as you observe animals cooling off in the channel’s waters up close.

Day 10: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park through Ishasha sector
After breakfast, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, making a stop in the Ishasha sector known for its famous tree-climbing lions. Enjoy a game drive through Ishasha, where you’ll have the chance to spot these unique lions, along with elephants, topi, waterbucks, and a variety of bird species.

Once you arrive at the lodge you can spend the afternoon at your own leisure. As an optional activity, you can request a visit to the Batwa ($80 per person).

Day 11: Gorilla trekking
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before setting off on an exhilarating gorilla trekking adventure. Accompanied by guides and armed rangers, you’ll venture into the dense tropical forest. The tracking can take between 2 to 10 hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements. Once you find them, you’ll have an hour to observe these majestic creatures as they feed, play, and groom each other. You’ll also hear their fascinating communication sounds and have the opportunity to take photos and videos (with the flash off).

Keep an eye out for other wildlife and bird species, such as the L’Hoest’s monkey, African elephant, and birds like the African green broadbill, Grauer’s rush warbler, Chaplin’s flycatcher, and the African giant swallowtail. After your unforgettable gorilla encounter, return to the lodge to relax and reflect on your incredible experience.

Day 12: Batwa community visit and nature walk
After breakfast at the lodge, go for a walk through the forest to visit a Batwa homestead, where you’ll discover the rich culture and lifestyle of the Batwa people, who lived in the forest before it became a national park. Enjoy an entertaining performance of traditional dance and songs by the locals. As you explore, keep an eye out for various bird species, with your guide assisting in their identification.

Day 13: Bwindi – Lake Mburo National Park – night game drive
After breakfast, transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, enjoying a scenic drive through the rolling hills of Kigezi and Ankole, with a delicious en route lunch. Arrive in the afternoon and embark on a mini game drive as you enter the park. In the evening, set out on a thrilling night game drive to spot nocturnal animals like hippos and hyenas.

Day 14: Lake Mburo National Park – Entebbe
After breakfast, enjoy a nature walk around the park, where you’ll have the chance to spot wildlife such as zebras, impalas, and reedbucks, along with various bird species. Return to the lodge, check out, and drive back to Kampala/Entebbe.
