Your 5-Day Kenya Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Masai Mara
Depart from your Nairobi city hotel after breakfast, or be picked up from the airport if arriving early in the morning, and head to Masai Mara. Enjoy a stop at the Escarpment View Point for a breathtaking view of the Great Rift Valley. Continue your journey down to the valley floor, passing through Mai Mahiu town, and make your way to the Masai town of Narok for a brief stop before reaching Masai Mara. Known as the new 8th Wonder of the World, this immense reserve is part of the expansive Serengeti plains and is renowned for its spectacular wildebeest migration and its abundance of the Big Five: lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, and Cape buffalo.
Arrive in time for lunch at the camp and enjoy a short rest. In the afternoon, set out on a game drive through the reserve, where you might witness predators hunting for their evening meal while the Masai people guide their cattle back home. Return to your lodge for dinner and a relaxing evening at leisure.
Overnight stay at Mara Leisure Camp (Full Board)
Day 2: Masai Mara Full Day
Today, we will spend the entire day in the reserve to fully experience the incredible wildebeest migration. Instead of an early morning game drive at 6:30 am, we will depart at 8:00 am after breakfast, bringing along picnic lunch boxes.
We’ll spend the mid-morning and early afternoon exploring the reserve, where you’ll have the chance to see a variety of wildlife, including the elusive Big Five.
Between July and October, the highlight is the annual wildebeest migration. Witness the herds in vast numbers on the plains, and look for the dramatic river crossings at Mara River, where crocodiles prey on the migrating animals. This event is truly a spectacle and has been recognised as one of the Wonders of the World. Be sure to bring your camera to capture this amazing sight!
In the afternoon, we will return to the Lodge for freshening up, followed by dinner and a relaxing evening at your leisure.
Overnight stay at Mara Leisure Camp (Full Board)
Day 3: Masai Mara – Lake Naivasha
After breakfast, depart from your Lodge/Camp in Masai Mara and drive past Narok town to Lake Naivasha, located on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. Check in at your Lodge/Camp on the lake’s shores and enjoy lunch.
In the afternoon, you have several exciting options:
- Hells Gate National Park: Explore this park on foot or by bicycle, with opportunities for rock climbing and walking through deep gorges.
- Boat Safari on Lake Naivasha: Experience birdwatching and spot hippos as the sun sets. The boat safari includes a visit to Crescent Island Private Game Sanctuary, where you can embark on a walking safari. Here, you can get close to giraffes and other herbivores, and even chase a herd of zebras. With no big cats on the island, it’s a unique opportunity to engage with wildlife up close, away from your safari vehicle.
Return to the camp/lodge in the evening followed by dinner
Overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge (Full Board)
Day 4: Lake Naivasha – Amboseli National Park
After an early breakfast, depart from Lake Naivasha and drive back to Nairobi before heading south to Amboseli National Park, located at the base of Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro. Known informally as “Kilimanjaro’s Royal Court,” Amboseli is famous for its large herds of free-ranging African elephants, along with wildebeests, giraffes, lions, monkeys, zebras, hyenas, and antelope, all set against the stunning backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
After a 4-hour drive, arrive in the early afternoon, check in at Kibo Safari Camp, and enjoy lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, explore the Amboseli plains on a game drive, then return to the camp at dusk for dinner.
Overnight stay at Kibo Safari Camp (Full Board)
Day 5: Amboseli – Namanga (Or Nairobi)
Start your day with an early breakfast before heading out for a game drive in Amboseli. Enjoy the drive through the park in the morning and mid-morning before exiting.
Drive back to Nairobi and arrive in the early afternoon, where you will be dropped off at your city hotel or Jomo Kenyatta Airport for your flight home.
Alternatively, you can proceed to the Namanga border to connect with a safari in Arusha, Tanzania.
