Your 7-Day Luxury Kenya Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi- Samburu Game Reserve (Home to Special Big 5)
After breakfast at your city hotel, you’ll depart Nairobi (or be picked up at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport if arriving early) and head north, passing coffee plantations and the iconic Mt. Kenya. You’ll continue towards the northern region of Kenya, home to the Samburu tribe, cousins of the Maasai. This semi-arid region, though rugged and hot under the equatorial sun, is renowned for its dramatic landscapes and unique wildlife species found only here. Look out for rare animals such as the Beisa Oryx, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich, and Grevy’s Zebra.

Arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive before returning to the lodge.

Day 2: Samburu Game Reserve
Spend the day exploring the Samburu Reserve with morning and afternoon game drives. The Ewaso Ng’iro River that runs through the reserve is a lifeline for the rare species that inhabit the area. Though smaller than some other parks, Samburu offers an unforgettable wildlife experience. Keep an eye out for Gerenuk antelope, leopards, lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, among other fascinating creatures. Birdwatchers will also be delighted by the abundance of birdlife, including some endangered species along the river.

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve – SweetWaters (Ol Pejeta Conservancy)
After breakfast, depart Samburu and travel south to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, situated between the Aberdares and Mt. Kenya. This 360 sq. km wildlife sanctuary, also known as SweetWaters, is dedicated to conserving wildlife and supporting community development. It is home to the Big Five, including the endangered black and white rhino, as well as a chimpanzee sanctuary.

Arrive in time for lunch, followed by a visit to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and a chance to see one of the tame rhinos before heading out for an evening game drive.

Day 4: SweetWaters (Ol Pejeta Conservancy) – Lake Nakuru National Park
Enjoy breakfast before departing Ol Pejeta and heading to Lake Nakuru National Park, a world-renowned destination for birdwatchers. Arrive mid-morning, check into the lodge, and enjoy lunch. After a short rest, head out on an evening game drive at 4:00 PM. The park is a sanctuary for both black and white rhinos, as well as the Rothschild Giraffe. You’ll also encounter birdlife such as flamingos, African Fish Eagles, and pelicans.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park – Masai Mara Game Reserve
After breakfast, depart Lake Nakuru and journey through the scenic Rift Valley to the world-famous Masai Mara Game Reserve. Passing through the town of Narok, you’ll arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive in search of the Big Five before returning to the lodge at dusk.

Day 6: Masai Mara Game Reserve
Spend a full day in the Masai Mara, one of the world’s most celebrated wilderness areas. Enjoy early morning and afternoon game drives, where you’ll encounter a wide variety of mammals, including Masai Giraffe, buffalo, zebra, and gazelles. You can also opt for an exciting hot air balloon ride at an additional cost.

Alternatively, you can take a full day game drive with a picnic lunch to maximise your time in this iconic reserve. Return to the lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 7: Masai Mara Game Reserve – Nairobi
After breakfast, depart the Masai Mara and drive back to Nairobi, arriving in time for lunch. Afterward, transfer to the airport for your onward flight or opt for a flight to the South Coast of Kenya for a beach holiday extension.
