Uganda Wildlife, Culture & Community Tour

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival: Entebbe → Kampala

Driving time: 45–60 minutes (~40 km)

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by your professional driver-guide for a warm welcome to Uganda. Transfer to Kampala and check in at your guesthouse. In the evening, enjoy a short orientation walk followed by a welcome briefing and dinner.

Day 2 – Kampala → Murchison Falls National Park

Driving time: 5.5–6 hours (~300 km)

Depart early for Murchison Falls National Park. En route, stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a guided rhino tracking experience on foot. Continue through scenic countryside to Murchison Falls, arriving in time for a visit to the Top of the Falls, where the Nile forces its way through a narrow gorge.

Day 3 – Murchison Falls National Park: Culture & Nile Cruise

Spend the morning on a cultural village visit, learning traditional food preparation techniques and local weaving skills. After lunch, enjoy a boat cruise along the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls, offering excellent opportunities to see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and a variety of birdlife.

Day 4 – Murchison Falls → Kibale / Bigodi Region

Driving time: 5–5.5 hours (~260 km)

Travel south through changing landscapes, passing tea plantations and rural villages as you make your way to the Kibale Forest region. Arrive at your community homestay near Bigodi. In the evening, gather around a campfire for storytelling and cultural exchange.

Day 5 – Kibale Forest: Chimpanzee Trek & Bigodi Wetland Walk

This morning, head into Kibale Forest for a guided chimpanzee trekking experience with Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. In the afternoon, explore the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary on a guided community walk, spotting monkeys, birds, and butterflies. Enjoy coffee processing and basket-weaving demonstrations with the local community.

Day 6 – Kibale Region: Conservation & Cultural Experiences

Participate in a hands-on tree-planting activity supporting local reforestation efforts. Later, visit a traditional iron-smith and a local healer for insights into indigenous knowledge systems. End the day with a community cooking session, preparing and sharing local dishes.

Day 7 – Kibale → Queen Elizabeth National Park (Rubona Area)

Driving time: 2.5–3 hours (~120–150 km)

After breakfast, stop at the Rubona honey project for a demonstration before continuing to Queen Elizabeth National Park. In the late afternoon, enjoy a game drive in search of elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and other wildlife.

Day 8 – Queen Elizabeth NP: Kazinga Channel → Ishasha

Driving time: 2–3 hours

Begin the day with a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, famous for its dense population of hippos and rich birdlife. Later, transfer to the Ishasha sector of the park, enjoying a game drive en route with chances to spot the famous tree-climbing lions.

Day 9 – Ishasha → Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Driving time: 4–5 hours (~150–170 km)

Enjoy a morning cultural visit at Agartha Homestead, where you will learn about traditional farming practices. Continue onward through scenic highlands to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Day 10 – Bwindi Impenetrable NP: Gorilla Trekking

After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a ranger briefing before embarking on your gorilla trekking experience. Spend one unforgettable hour observing a habituated gorilla family in its natural habitat. In the afternoon, enjoy a craft activity with a local women’s group.

Day 11 – Bwindi → Lake Bunyonyi

Driving time: 2–3 hours (~70–90 km)

Travel to the scenic Lake Bunyonyi. On arrival, take a canoe ride across the lake to your accommodation. The evening is spent relaxing, with a bonfire dinner overlooking the water.

Day 12 – Lake Bunyonyi: Island Walks & Community Life

Enjoy a guided canoe tour and island walk, visiting local farms and communities. Optional hikes on the peninsula are available, or simply relax by the lake or enjoy a swim.

Day 13 – Lake Bunyonyi → Mbarara (Ankole Region)

Driving time: 2–3 hours (~80–120 km)

Transfer to Mbarara and visit the Igongo Cultural Centre. Learn about Ankole culture through basket weaving and pottery demonstrations, followed by an evening of traditional music and dance around the campfire.

Day 14 – Lake Mburo National Park → Entebbe (Departure)

Driving time: Approx. 6 hours total

Enjoy a morning walking safari in Lake Mburo National Park, encountering zebras, impalas, and other plains wildlife on foot. Stop at the Equator for photos and souvenirs before continuing to Entebbe. A day room is available for freshening up prior to evening international departures.

  2. The Gorilla Tracking included in this safari depends on the availability of gorilla trekking permits at the time of booking. These permits are strictly limited and sold out in advance, especially during peak seasons of Christmas and school holidays. We therefore strongly recommend booking early.
